Losing Friends... Alienating People...

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

... Par for the course, really when dealing with gay "celebrities" whose arsenal for debating social issues such as gay marriage are limited exclusively to sexist, high-school name-calling.

It's depressing to me that people like Hilton can and will be seen as a "voice for the gay community".  It's equally depressing (although none that shocking) that the media and gay leadership condones his words simply by their silence.

Apparently, the hate speech card is a one-way street going in whatever direction those touting it are pointing.

What Are We? Chopped Liver?

Now, this stance of his was well over a decade ago, and well... politicians on both sides are notorious for changing positions on hot-button issues.  What's interesting is that, from what I know, his position has not changed on any of the other questions that were posed to him back in 1996.  Why, thirteen years later when gay's are arguably more accepted in society, does the now president feel that marriage is no longer an acceptable option for homosexuals?

I ask this only to those who feel that Obama has come down from On High to rescue our People from the pain and torment we as gay Americans are subject to on a daily basis.  As a running reminder of The One's campaign to bring equality to us all (even if it's in the form of federal civil unions), there is a coffee mug off to your right of his number of days in office.

The mug will come down when equality, and his promise, has been reached.
