Obama Didn't Always Oppose Gay Marriage

Monday, March 23, 2009

Turns out that back in his Illinois days, Obama was actually an ardent supporter of not just civil unions, but full on marriage.  (Pay attention to #6 in the second posted image.)

Now, this stance of his was well over a decade ago, and well... politicians on both sides are notorious for changing positions on hot-button issues.  What's interesting is that, from what I know, his position has not changed on any of the other questions that were posed to him back in 1996.  Why, thirteen years later when gay's are arguably more accepted in society, does the now president feel that marriage is no longer an acceptable option for homosexuals?

I ask this only to those who feel that Obama has come down from On High to rescue our People from the pain and torment we as gay Americans are subject to on a daily basis.  As a running reminder of The One's campaign to bring equality to us all (even if it's in the form of federal civil unions), there is a coffee mug off to your right of his number of days in office.

The mug will come down when equality, and his promise, has been reached.
